Tax Abatement Policy
The City of Texas City is interested in supporting new and existing businesses that are quality development and further the City's goal of providing lasting value. The City's main objective in assisting businesses is the need to provide opportunities for current citizens through employment. Jobs created for local businesses and citizens during construction and permanently once the business or facility is open are both crucial to the City's economic development objective and consideration for obtaining a tax abatement. The City will work closely with Galveston County in securing a tax abatement for eligible projects that the City is interested in supporting. The City of Texas City provides tax abatements on a case by case basis. The City of Texas City's Tax Abatement Policy allows flexibility for both the applicant and the City in determining the appropriate level of support based upon the project submitted by the applicant. The tax abatement is designed as an incentive to attract a business, activity, or expansion that would not ordinarily locate within Texas City without such incentive. Expansions may also be considered, but must meet a higher test and conditions with relationship to job creation or retention.
