COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS

  • CPR Education
The department offers free American Heartsaver and Healthcare CPR classes plus Basic First Aid classes to the general public of Galveston County. It is estimated that we have trained approximately 8,000 people since our program inception in 1993. This program has provided a vital link in our pre-hospital emergency medical services system making Texas City and surrounding communities some of the safest places to live, work, or visit if you suffer a medical emergency. For more information, call Fire Administration at 409-643-5700.
  • Free Smoke Detector Program
The Texas City Fire Department with the help of local businesses will provide a free smoke alarm to Texas City residents that cannot afford them.. The only requirement are that the residents reside in the home, that the home does not currently have a smoke alarm or it is more than 10 years old. For more information, call Fire Administration at 409-643-5700.
  • Fire Prevention
The fire department offers fire prevention programs to schools and/or businesses upon request. Fire fighters will share basic fire safety information to children, show them the fire engine and equipment, and show children what a fire fighter looks like in bunker (fire fighting) gear. The presentation focuses on teaching children that fire fighters are their friends, not to play with matches and lighters, stop, drop, and roll, and how to exit their home safely in case of fire. To schedule a presentation or field trip, call Fire Administration at 409-643-5700. All requests for presentation require at least one week advance notice.

  • Fire Safety House
October 1996, the department in concert with the Galveston County Junior League acquired a Fire Safety House following twelve months of planning and development. The teaching aid (Safety House) is used for fire safety and evacuation, home safety, medical emergencies, chemical emergencies, and other events such as hurrican preparedness. To schedule a presentation, call Fire Administration at 409-643-5700. All requests for presentation require at least one week advance notice.
  • Safety Presentation/Speakers
Upon request, the Fire Prevention Bureau can do a presentation on fire safety, careers in fire fighting, medical services, set up booths in local health fairs, and many other related topics and be available to answer questions. This is a free service but it is recommended you give the department at least two weeks notice before the event. To schedule an event please call the Fire Prevention Bureau at 409-643-5708 or 409-643-5704.
