•  Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the Texas City Fire Department, applicants must be between the age of 18 and 36 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED certificate, current valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, and a DD-214 if you have served in the military. You are not required to have state certification for fire protection and emergency medical technician at the time of application or employment. Preference will be given to those applicants with EMT-Paramedic certification. Training opportunities for certification will be provided by the department to any applicant that is offered and has accepted employment with the department.

Other requirements include medical examination, fitness assessment, background investigation, polygraph examination upon request, and oral interview, in addition to a controlled substance and alcohol screening test as a prerequisite to employment.

•  Other Certification Required

Any applicant that becomes employed with the Texas City Fire Department shall be required to maintain applicable current uninterrupted certification at a level determined by the department for both Fire and EMT with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and the Department of Health for Emergency Medical Technicians; CPR Instructor; Hazardous Materials D.O.T. certification at a level determined by the department; Water Rescue certificed; Confined Space and High Angle Rescue certified; and other certifications required by the department. All required certifications must be obtained within the first year of employment.
