10-23-09 The City and County have worked with FEMA and have received an approval of the estimate for repairs to the TC Dike. An engineer has been selected to prepare plans and specifications for the Dike restoration. We expect to go out for bids this winter and complete construction in the fall of 2010. This schedule could change dependent on several factors including estimates matching the actual bid and meeting FEMA’s approval. The City is still awaiting FEMA’s official approval, and no work can proceed until that approval is received. It is expected in the near future. 4-13-09 Texas City Dike Important Notice – The Texas City Dike was severely damaged during Hurricane Ike. Safety is the City's first concern, and the damage to the Dike and the debris in the water prevents the City from being able to provide a safe environment. So, at this time, the Texas City Dike is closed indefinitely . The City is working with the Corps of Engineers, FEMA, Galveston County, and others to find a way to open the Dike as quickly as possible. Unfortunately at this time, a schedule is not available nor is a partial opening. Please continue to visit the website as the City of Texas City works to reopen the Dike as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this creates. |
