The City of Texas City offers a wealth of activities and events for everyone. From city parks to fishing, a day of golf to a picnic in the park, we've got something for everyone.

Children ages 14 and under

Nessler Center Preschool
Nessler Preschool strives to provide a positive program to help prepare your child for kindergarten.

Youth Art Classes
TCISD art teacher Desiree Haddock gives art instruction to children in grades K-6. The cost is $25 per child per session. Classes take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. for students in kindergarten through second grade; and from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for students in third through sixth grade.

Registration begins Thursday, Sept. 1. Class run through May 17, 2012. Sign up at the Nessler Center, 2010 5th Ave. N. Call 409-643-5990 with questions.


Father-Daughter Dance
When: 6:30-9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012
Where: Charles T. Doyle Convention Center
Tickets: Tickets may be bought in advance at the Nessler Center Reservation Office. Cost is $25/couple through Feb. 6. From Feb. 6-10, cost is $30/couple. $8 per additional daughter. Ticket includes dinner, memory phot and souvenir. Admission limited to 600 people.

Spring 2012 Swim Lessons
When: Session 1 is March 19-29, 2012. Session 2 is April 9-19, 2012. Classes held Mondays through Thursdays. Preschool classes at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Levels 1-4 classes held at 6:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.

Adult

Women's Fastpitch Softball League
Register now for women's fastpitch softball. Season begins Jan. 12, 2012. Cost per team: $700. Contact the Lowry Fitness Center for more information at (409) 643-5984.


Men's Basketball League 2012
Men's Industrial Basketball League and Men's Recreational Basketball League. Registration from Jan. 16 to Feb. 12, 2012 at the Lowry Fitness Center athletics office (open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.).
Teams may have up to 12 players (age 18 and older). Must have uniforms with legal T.A.A.F. numbers. Cost: $300/team.
Season begins Feb. 21, 2012. Recreation League will play on Tuesdays. Industrial League will play on Thursdays. Nine season games plus single elimination championship tournament.
All games will be played at the new Carver Park Community Center, 6615 Park Ave., Texas City, Texas 77591.

Seniors

Senior Citizens Program
Call or come by the Nessler Center (2010 5th Avenue North) and speak with Senior Program Coordinator, Faye Kainer. Seniors 55 years of age and older may enjoy open recreation and no registration is required. Seniors 60 years of age and older must fill out an application to register to be eligible for the lunch program. For more information, please call (409) 643-5877.

Silversneakers Fitness Program
Older adults may be eligible for a Free Membership by joining the SilverSneakers fitness program. SilverSneakers is offered in partnership with select health plans (Humana and Texas Health Spring) at no additional cost to Medicare-eligible members.

Included in this membership are the Silversneakers Classes, which offer strength and conditioning exercises designed to improve your strength and flexibility. The member may also join in on the other clases offered and receive guidance from qualified fitness instructiors. A heated swimming pool, saunas, weight machines, and cardio equipment are also available for use.

Any Medicare-eligible Humana or Texas Health Spring member may join. All that is needed is current proof of insurance participation. If there are any questions about the application process, please contact the Lowry Center.
