Community Services & Programs
The Texas City Police Department sponsors and promotes the following programs and services. For more information on any of these programs, contact Cpl. Tim Herd, (409) 643-5722 ext. 2719.
Citizens Police Academy
The Texas City Police Department is currently taking applications for the next Citizens Police Academy Course. The course is a window into the operations of the Texas City Police Department for citizens who are interested in how their police department serves their community. The course includes information on state laws, local ordinances, police procedures, special units, court systems and proceedings, and the cooperative efforts with other city departments such as Emergency Management and the Fire Department. Other cooperating agencies are represented by presentations from the Auto Crimes Task Force, Joint Terrorism Task Force, Galveston County District Attorney's Office, and others when available.

The goal of the course is to create a better understanding of what the police can do and why they do things, to foster better cooperation and communication with the community, and offer volunteer opportunities to those who attend the course. The course is approximately 12 weeks long and meets two nights per week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Those who attend the course are eligible to join the Texas City Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, which organizes volunteer activities through the Police Department. These activities include assisting with parades and major events, the Citizens on Patrol program, and assisting with many projects.

Our next class will be held in 2018, dates are pending.  Enrollment is open to those who live or work in Texas City or the surrounding area. To enroll, complete and submit the Citizens Police Academy application

For more information, please contact Sgt. Jess Colwell at (409) 643-5722 ext. 2719 or via email.
