Step 1: Ensure that you meet the below listed requirements.
Step 2: Download and complete the City of Texas City Job Application form (Word document)
Step 3: Email your completed application to mjohnson@texas-city-tx.org
Step 4: If selected, you will be contacted to take a written examination (on computer)
Step 5: If you pass the written exam, you will complete a physical agility test.
Step 6: If you pass the physical agility test, you will be given a background packet to complete.
Step 7: Once your background packet is turned in, you will be assigned a background investigator.
Step 8: Once all backgrounds are completed, the Chief of Police will make a determination on hiring.
Police Officer Requirements:
  1. 21 or older prior to appointment
  2. Be fingerprinted and pass criminal records checks.
  3. No court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above a grad of Class B Misdemeanor for last ten (10) years.
  4. Not have been convicted of any Class B or above misdemeanor, excluding traffic violations within the last seven (7) years. 
  5. No family (domestic) violence related offense conviction.
  6. No felony offense conviction.
  7. Be of good moral character. .
  8. Be subjected to a thorough, comprehensive background investigation and interview. A.) Completed high school, or possses a valid G.E.D. B.) TCOLE certification at time of employment.
  9. Pass medical, psychological and drug testing requirements.
  10. No military discharge under less than honorable conditions.
  11. Insurable driving record.
  12. No more than five (5) moving violations within the past three (3) years.
  13. No prior DWI convictions.
  14. No convictions of any crime involving moral turpitude.
  15. Not have previously left the employment of this agency under other than honorable conditions.
  16. Possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

  • Free in-house physician available for officers and spouses, significantly reducing personal costs for standard medical care and non-emergency treatment.
