Step 1: Ensure that you meet the below listed requirements.
Step 2: Download and complete the City of Texas City Job Application form (Word document)
Step 3: Email your completed application to mjohnson@texas-city-tx.org
Step 4: If selected, you will be contacted to take a written examination (on computer)
Step 5: If you pass the written exam, you will complete a physical agility test.
Step 6: If you pass the physical agility test, you will be given a background packet to complete.
Step 7: Once your background packet is turned in, you will be assigned a background investigator.
Step 8: Once all backgrounds are completed, the Chief of Police will make a determination on hiring.
Police Officer Requirements:
  1. Currently enrolled in or successfully completed the basic peace officer licensing course.
  2. Have reached his/her 21st birthday prior to appointment to the position of Police Officer.
  3. All applicants must be hired by their 45th birthday.  Only reserve officers can be over the age of 45.
  4. Be fingerprinted and subjected to state, local, and national criminal records checks.
  5. Not been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above a grade of Class B Misdemeanor for last ten (10) years.
  6. Not have been convicted of any Class B or above misdemeanor, excluding traffic violations within the last seven (7) years.
  7. Not been convicted of any family (domestic) violence related offense.
  8. Not have been convicted of a prior felony offense.
  9. Be of good moral character.
  10. Be subjected to a thorough,comprehensive background investigation and interview.
    1. Completed high school,or, possess a valid G.E.D.
    2. Meet or exceed minimum TCOLE standards for future certification and/or possess a certification at time of employment.
  11. All applicants must pass medical, mental and drug testing requirements.
  12. Not have been discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions.
  13. Must have an insurable driving record according to the city's insurance policy.
  14. Not have been convicted of more than five (5) moving violations within the past three(3) years.
  15. Have no prior DWI convictions.
  16. Have no convictions of any crime involving moral turpitude.
  17. Not have previously left the employment of this agency under other than honorable conditions.
  18. Possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
